Exhibit description | Jonas III (1537–1592) – Švedijos karalius (1568–92), Švedijos karaliaus Gustavo I Vazos sūnus, Zigmanto Vazos (kat. 501–508) tėvas, Vazų dinastijos pradininkas. Tapęs Suomijos kunigaikščiu (1556), planavo išplėsti valdas į Livoniją ir sukurti nepriklausomą valstybę. Tikėdamasis Švedijos sosto, savo pozicijas sustiprino vedybomis su Žygimanto Augusto seserimi Kotryna (jungtuvės įvyko Vilniuje 1562). Su jo, kaip Švedijos karaliaus, vardu susijęs Livonijos karas – pirmas aštrus kelių Europos valstybių konfliktas dėl įsitvirtinimo Baltijos rytiniame pakraštyje. |
