Exhibit description | Juozapo Ozemblovskio litografijos spaustuvėje daryto kūrinio kompozicijoje pavaizduoti trys Vilniaus kankiniai šventieji Antanas, Jonas ir Eustachas, kurių kūnai ilsisi Vilniuje greta Aušros Vartų esančioje Šv. Dvasios cerkvėje. Šie trys krikščionys 1346 m. ar 1347 m. buvo nužudyti valdant Algirdui. Kaip pasakojama padavime, dėl savo religinių įsitikinimų kunigaikščio Algirdo dvare tarnavę kariai broliai Antanas ir Jonas pasiryžo gyventi krikščioniškai ir užsitraukė pagonių kunigaikščio Algirdo nemalonę. Iškentę ilgus kankinimus, bet neatsižadėję tikėjimo, abu broliai buvo pakarti: Jonas sausio 14 d., Antanas balandžio 24 d. Įkvėptas brolių, pasikrikštijo ir septyniolikmetis Antano ir Jono pusbrolis Eustachas. Deja, jo lemtis buvo panaši, jis buvo pasmerktas myriop gruodžio 13 d. Visi trys broliai, anot legendos, buvo pakarti ant ąžuolo, Vilniuje buvusio tradicine egzekucijų vieta. Kankiniai Antanas ir Jonas kompozicijoje vaizduojami su ilgesniais plaukais ir barzdomis, nes, pasiryžę gyventi krikščioniškai, pasak padavimo, jie ne tik laikėsi pasninko dienų, bet, kitaip nei pagonys, augino plaukus ir ilgas barzdas. Kompozicijos centrinėje ašyje pavaizduotas ąžuolas, tapęs brolių egzekucijos vieta, po brolių kojomis – įvairūs kankinimo įrankiai ir lazdos, kuriomis buvo mušamas brolis Eustachijus. P. Galaunė įgijo antikvariate Vilniuje apie 1942 m.
