Information about the museum

The Šiauliai Railway Museum is a branch of the Railway Museum. The museum was founded in 1971 on the occasion of the Šiauliai Railway centenary.

The Šiauliai Railway Museum houses two exhibitions: an outdoor exhibition and a museum-historical one. The permanent exhibition is presented in the first hall. Here visitors can learn about the history of the Šiauliai Railway since 1871 when the station was built, and the first train came to Šiauliai. It is illustrated by photos, documents, and other various exhibits.

The second hall shows the current railway infrastructure and the only working railway model in the Šiauliai area.

The outdoor exhibition covers 13 hectares. Visitors have the opportunity to be active participants rather than mere spectators. Many are fascinated by the narrow- and broad-gauge steam trains, a part of the road laid on metal sleepers, the mechanism of railway switches, wooden utility poles and many other exhibits on display.
