The museum was founded in 1989, in a house where one of the most prominent personalities of Lithuanian culture – Juozas Grušas (1901–1986) lived and created for almost half a century (1938–1986). He was a playwrighter, prose writer, journalist, translator, essayist. Since 2001 here is a permanent exposition.

The house, whose project was invented by Juozas Grušas himself, is of traditional homestead type, conveniently and rationally designed. Visitors are given the opportunity to look at the authentic environment of the writer's home, his planted garden.

The memorial space consists of 2 interconnecting rooms that can be separated by a hinged door. The old interior of the rooms, furniture and memorial library have been preserved till now. The Large Room was a universal one: it was a living room, a workroom, and Grušas's bedroom, while the little one served as a family dining room. 

The museum is proud of its preserved art collection, manuscripts, photographs, epistolics. In other rooms visitors can see the exposition of Juozas Grušas' creative legacy, which opens a rich gallery of his books: from the first collection of novels to the short stories published in foreign languages in 21^st century. 

In the shelter, wonderful findings were discovered during the repair in 2001: manuscripts of the play "Dictator", honorable awards of the writer's father Antanas Grušas, and the Lithuanian flag made in the pre-war period. 

The theatrical exposition includes scenes of historical dramas performances created by Juozas Grušas, and cinematographic footage. A special place is dedicated to the performance “Barbora Radvilaitė” (1972) by Kaunas Theater, which was recognized as the centenary performance.

Juozas Tumas-Vaižgantas Memorial Apartment Museum was established in 1997 as one of the branches of Maironis Lithuanian Literature Museum. Maironis Lithuanian Literature Museum stores the creative, archival and memorial heritage of Jonas Mačiulis and collects the archives of the exiles, partisans and the diaspora. The expeditions to the places where the writers used to live and spend their time are constantly organised and various literary events, commemorations and concerts are hosted here.
The 4-room apartment that Juozas Tumas rented from Doctor Petras Musteikis now looks practically the same as it did when he lived here. Iconographic material that Vaižgantas left was of a huge help – he had made a picture of each of his rooms which served well when authentically restoring the flat. Four rooms have been reconstructed – they are now furnished with original furniture, various stuff, and artworks that used to belong to Vaižgantas. The flat’s interior is decorated with photographs that reflect writer’s life. Visitors are kindly invited to feel the spirit of the temporary capital of Lithuania as Vaižgantas knew it, to get to know the personality and mundane surroundings of the great intelligent, and to also see unique artworks that belonged to the writer.

A famous public figure, a writer, and a priest Juozas Tumas-Vaižgantas used to live and create in this house in 1920–1933. He was a colourful and active participant of Lithuanian national revival of the 19^th–20^th centuries, the most popular and restless pre-war highlander in Kaunas. Vaižgantas was a well-known publicist, educationist, literary historian, and a museologist. He amazed his contemporaries with a dazzling wit and wisdom, was loved by the youth for his lively and energetic spirit. He moved from Vilnius to Kaunas in 1920 when Antanas Smetona asked him to be the editor of the newspaper Tauta. His apartment was a place where Kaunas intelligentsia, artists, soldiers, priests, and other famous public figures would gather.

Poetess, literary classic of great talent and complex destiny Salomėja Nėris (1904–1945) is the most prominent figure in the 20th century Lithuania. Her work has been translated into about 30 languages ​​worldwide.

Salomėja Nėris Memorial Museum opened its doors in 1962. The house was built in 1937–1938 by her husband, sculptor and architect Bernardas Bučas. It is a wooden 2-storeyed building with an attic and a brick annex for the sculpture workshop. The poetess lived here with her family from 1937 to 1941.

The museum was founded in 1991, in a modern style house of a prominent politician and public figure – Mykolas Sleževičius (1882–1939) – built in 1933. Nowadays it is like a fairytale house where visitors can see, hear and learn about the best Lithuanian literary tales, the most beautiful poems, the most interesting plays and their creators.

The museum also invites visitor to embark on an interactive tour of the unusual and rather erroneous country of “Ydos”, which was recreated according to the story of the writer Vytautas Petkevičius “Gilės nuotykiai ydų šalyje” by the artist Marius Jonutis. 

Visitors' curiosity is always aroused by an interesting box with the doors: when they open and turn the knobs on top, the tale moves – the Pranas Mašiotas Garden blossoms. This is also the work of Marius Jonutis.

The most adventurous visitors of the museum can try a spacecraft flight to the toy planet “Tandadrika” or learn the stories of the ancient closet residents.
