From the very first years of independent Lithuania, teacher Jeronimas Veverskis worked enthusiastically with pupils in Veliuona. He started with a collection of weapons and stone axes. The teacher Leonida Matusevičienė contributed a lot to the development of the museum in Veliuona. In 1959 the forming of the collection of material about the writer Petras Cvirkas, who studied in the Veliuona Primary School in his childhood, began.

In 1961 ethnography museum in Veliuona school was established. Later, in 1979, Veliuona Regional Museum was formed from the ethnography museum, and a subdivision of Maironis Lithuanian Literature Museum. After that, in 1996, the museum became a subdivision of Jurbarkas Regional Museum.

Vincas Grybas Memorial Museum was founded in 1960, in the old Jurbarkas park, which belonged to the estate of the duke Ilarionas Vasilčikovas in the 19^th century. Here in 1928 Vincas Grybas (1890–1941) came to live and create. He was one of the most famous 20^th century sculptor, pioneer of Lithuanian monument. 

Vincas Grybas Memorial Museum preserves sculptor's creative heritage. The most important and most valuable part of the exhibition are sculptures, monument projects, drawings created by Vincas Grybas. In other exhibition halls of the museum photographs, documents, extracts of letters, and an exhibition of wooden sculptures collected by the sculptor are shown. Also, in the museum visitor can get acquainted with another famous painter from this region – Lidija Meškaitytė (1926–1993) – a unique master of watercolor miniature.
