Information about the museum
Kelmė Regional Museum was founded in 1990, but its history goes back to the first half of the 20th century. The premises of the museum are located in 3 buildings of Kelmė manor ensemble. The former Kelmė manor house is a rare baroque provincial mansion in Lithuania with an area of 15.2 hectares together with the park. From 1591 the estate was ruled by noblemen Gruževskiai, who were active supporters of the Reformation. Kelmė Manor is the place, where the 1863 uprising against tsarist Russia started.
