Information about the museum
The Kupiškis Ethnographic Museum was established in 1943 in a building on the market square, a linen warehouse from the late 19th century. The museum aims to collect, preserve, restore, research, and promote the values of cultural, historical, natural, artistic and Aukštaitija region heritage; to shape the historical, cultural, and social experience of the public; to actively and effectively present the tangible and intangible evidence of the area to the public through traditional and modern means of communication. The Kupiškis Ethnographic Museum has a permanent exhibition depicting villagers' daily lives from the late 19th to the early 20th century. Here visitors can discover agricultural tools, household utensils, the tradition of cross-making and wayside shrines, as well as the traditions of both daily life and festivities.
The museum has the following branches: the Adomas Petrauskas Museum, the Uoginiai Craft Centre, the Veronika Šleivytė Painting Gallery, and the Laukminiškės Village Museum.
