Information about the museum
Founded in 1928, the museum collects, preserves, researches, displays and promotes the material and spiritual values and natural objects connected with the cultural history of the Mažeikiai region. The artefacts kept and exhibited at the Mažeikiai Museum relate to the Samogitian history, archaeology, ethnography, and folk art.
The exhibitions are presented both in the Mažeikiai Museum, located in the centre of Mažeikiai, and in its branches: the Writer Šatrijos Ragana Memorial Museum in Židikai and three museums in Viekšniai: the Viekšniai Pharmacy Museum; the Memorial Museum of Aleksandas Griškevičius, initiator of Lithuanian Aviation; and the Museum of Professors Mykolas, Vaclovas and Viktoras Biržiškos.
