Information about the museum
The Šilalė Regional Museum was initially founded in 1962. Over the years, its location and affiliation with cultural institutions changed several times. In 2006, the museum's exhibition was moved to new permanent premises, and the museum itself was named in honour of the prominent local ethnographer Vladas Statkevičius (1911–1999). The museum aims to collect, preserve, and promote cultural and artistic values and create a favourable environment where both national and international culture could be presented.
The museum exhibits stone axes, weapons, and various types of jewellery (brass rings, brooches, bracelets, fragments of iron spears and swords) from the Neolithic period, household objects, craftsmen's tools, footwear and lighting tools.
The museum has three branches: the Baubliai Museum of Dionizas Poška, a 19th- century Lithuanian writer and one of the most remarkable cultural figures of the country, the Granary-Museum of the linguist and priest Kazimieras Jaunius and Upyna Ethnographic Museum.
