Information about the museum
The name of the museum, Santaka (confluence in Lithuanian), symbolises the flowing together, as in a river, of the history and customs of people of different confessions and nationalities in the Tauragė region. The museum was founded in 1990. It is located in the so-called Tauragė Castle, built in 1844–1847 as a customs house. The architecture of the castle building complex with four towers has elements of the Romanticism-Renaissance style.
The Tauragė Region Museum presents regional history in a modern way, inviting visitors to see History and Ethnography, Photography exhibitions and natural exhibits. The museum's dynamic displays with interactive technologies appeal to visitors of all ages.
The Santaka Tauragė Region Museum has the following branches: the Skaudvilė Region Museum, the Exile and Resistance Museum, and the Alfonsas Čepauskas Art Gallery. There is also a tourist information centre near the museum.
