Information about the museum
The Utena Regional Museum was founded in 1929. The museum is an exceptional place anyone wishing to learn more about the culture and history of the Utena region.
The museum has five permanent exhibitions. The treasures from mounds shown at the Archaeological Exhibition invite visitors to take a journey into the region's most distant past. The Crafts and Trades Exhibition presents the development of agriculture and blacksmithing in the ethnographic region of Eastern Aukštaitija in Lithuania. The Ethnographic Exhibition offers an opportunity to get acquainted with the local people's daily life and traditional celebrations. The Exhibition of Ancient Sculptures presents the rich spiritual world of the region. The Utena City History Exhibition shows the city's development; the exhibits on display and modern technologies allow viewers to immerse themselves in the town from its foundation to the present day.
The museum has six branches: the Tauragnai Regional Museum, the Vytautas Valiušis Ceramics Museum, the Literary-Ethnographic Homestead of Antanas and Motiejus Miškiniai, the Leliūnai Art Centre, the Svirnas Traditional Crafts Centre, and the Freedom Fights Museum.
