Information about the museum
The Vincas Mykolaitis Putinas Memorial Flat-Museum is a branch of the Directorate of Vilnius Memorial Museums. The museum was opened in 1986 in the house of the poet, prose writer, playwright, literary researcher, professor, and public figure Vincas Mykolaitis-Putinas, where he spent the last two decades of his life. The house was built in 1936–1938. The multi-story building with a constructive exterior of geometric shapes, solid proportions and unique details stands out from the rest of the rationalist buildings in Vilnius of that time.
Today, the museum organises educational activities, cultural events, contests and discussions, offers guided tours for various groups of visitors, carries out alternative projects, holds exhibitions, keeps an archive, collects information and preserves the museum collections.
Since 2017, the same apartment has housed a modern exhibition dedicated to the professor, writer and playwright Balys Sruoga, who also lived here.
