Information about the museum
The Cultural Centre-Museum of Vilkaviškis, Suvalkija (Sudovia) District is a multifunctional institution engaged in cultural, museum, educational and informational work in Vilkaviškis District.
The museum is established in the classicist 18th-century Paežeriai Manor House. The Paežeriai Manor with classicist forms was built on the picturesque lakeside on the initiative of Simonas Zabiela, a nobleman of the Lithuanian Grand Duchy, in the years 1795–1799. The manor house was designed by a renowned Vilnius architect Martynas Knakfusas (1742–1821).
Following the restoration of the manor and the merging of two of its institutions (the Suvalkija Art Gallery and Vilkaviškis Regional Museum), the Cultural Centre-Museum of Vilkaviškis, Suvalkija (Sudovia) District was founded in 2016.
The exhibition of the museum presents the cultural heritage of the Vilkaviškis region and Sudovia District: the archaeology, history, nature, culture, daily life, fine arts and folk art of the area, as well as the life and work of the region's notable people and the history of émigrés.
