Information about the museum

The Lithuanian Road Museum is located in Vievis. The museum was founded in 1995 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the construction of the Vilnius–Kaunas motorway. The permanent exhibition presents the history of road construction: the old tools, the road workers' footwear and photographs illustrating the history of the interwar period, the Soviet era and the present time. Also on display are road building materials, rocks, minerals and examples of crystals. The exhibition panels provide information on the development of roads from the times of the Amber Road to modern motorways.

The Ethnographic Exhibition features household items, other everyday objects and working tools from workers' homes from the 19th-20th centuries. The museum has a small but popular Hunting and Ecology section, which exhibits Lithuanian taxidermy birds and animals.
