Content description
Aukuro kalnas – tai centrinis Kernavės piliakalnių komplekso piliakalnis. Vladislavas Sirokomlė (Liudvikas Vladislavas Kondratovičius) Aukuro kalno ir Pilies kalno piliakalnius kasinėjo dar 1857 m. Piliakalnis tyrinėtas 1992 – 1993 m. (vadovas A. Luchtanas). Aptikti I–XIV a. datuotini kultūriniai sluoksniai. Gausūs archeologiniai radiniai, ypač didelis atvežtinių dirbinių bei prabangos daiktų kiekis (stiklas iš Sirijos, šilko plombos iš Venecijos) liudija, kad viduramžiais ant Aukuro kalno piliakalnio stovėjusi medinė pilis buvo kunigaikščio rezidencija. Taigi piliakalnio funkcija laikui bėgant kito nuo įtvirtintos gyvenvietės pirmaisiais mūsų eros amžiais iki pilies XIII–XIV a. 2012 m. Aukuro kalnas magnetometru tyrinėtas Kopenhagos universiteto SAXO instituto archeologų (vad. I. Merkytė).
