Exhibit description | Velinas (Patolas) – vienas iš trijų svarbiausių indoeuropiečių protautės dievų. Pirmiausia jo būta gyvulininkystės globėju; iš čia šie dievybės požymiai: ragai, uodega ir kanopos. Vėliau Velinas tapo požemio valdovu, tarpininku tarp gyvųjų ir mirusiųjų. Velino nesantaika su Perkūnu, išreiškianti tam tikrą socialinę įtampą tarp karių ir žemdirbių luomų, suka gamtos ratą. Po Lietuvos krikšto įvaizdis degradavo iki folklorinio personažo velniuko, pravardžiuojamo vokietuku, pinčiuku, kriaučiuku. Tačiau rytsykiais jis vėl atgauna senąjį įvaizdį, pasiversdamas ožiu. Dažniausiai velnias apsireiškia pelkėse, raistuose, – tai primena jo chtoniškąją prigimtį. Nuo Perkūno kulkų jis slepiasi po akmeniu, simboliškai išreiškiančiu ribą tarp pasaulio dalių. (L. Klimka.
