Exhibit description | Žemėpatis (Žemininkas, Lauksargis) – lietuvių žemdirbystės dievas. Istoriografiniuose šaltiniuose jį pirmasis paminėjo Martynas Mažvydas, ragindamas „pamesti kaukų, žemėpačių, lauksargių garbinimą“. Jono Lasickis knygelėje „Apie žemaičių dievus“ (1580 m.) žemės dievus – žemėpačius pamini išsyk po Aukštėjo Visagalinčio. Pasak Mato Pretorijaus, kiekvienas ūkininkas turi savo Žemėpatį, globojantį ūkį ir namus. Žemėpačio garbei gruodžio mėnesį rengiama šventė, dėkojant už derlių. Kita tikėtina Žemėpačio pagerbimo šventė – pavasariniai sambariai. Taigi atrodo, kad Žemėpatis buvo ir žemės dievas, ir konkretaus dirbamo žemės plotelio globėjas. Žemėpačio žmona – Žemyna Žiedeklė. Dievybės simboliu galėjo būti šernas (tai mini romėnų istorikas P. K. Tacitas I a.) arba žemės ūkio padargai – arklas, žagrė, jaučių jungas.
