Description
Exhibit description | Dailininko Jono Šileikos (1883–1960) 1924 m. tapytas Jono Mačiulio-Maironio (1862–1932) portretas. Tai vienintelis portretas, kuriame poetas vilki pasauliečio drabužiais. Profesiją išduoda tik prelato žiedas ant dešiniosios rankos bevardžio piršto. Maironio archyve apie šį portretą nėra jokių užuominų, tačiau įdomus dokumentas aptiktas Nacionaliniame M. K. Čiurlionio dailės muziejuje, J. Šileikos archyve – lapelis su Maironio rankraščiu, ant kurio užrašyta: „Graži tu mano brangi tėvyne, šalis kur miega kapuos didvyriai...” Užrašyta lapo viršuje, tuomet ta pati eilutė per lapo vidurį, o apačioje pasirašyta „Maironis“. Kol nebuvo surastas šis rankraštis, kurį J. Šileika panaudojo tapydamas portretą, buvo galima įtarti, kad galbūt tapyta iš fotografijos, poetui nepozuojant, tačiau iš Maironio rankraščio aiškėja, kad bendradarbiauta ir pozuota, nes užrašytas tekstas pavaizduotas ir portrete. 1939 m. portretas iškeliavo į Niujorko pasaulinę meno parodą, vykusią tais pačiais metais. Kai paroda baigėsi, Europoje buvo prasidėjęs Antrasis pasaulinis karas ir meno kūriniai į Tėvynę tada negrįžo. Maironio portretą priglobė lietuvis bankininkas John Krotkas (Jonas Krotkus). 2011 metų spalio mėnesį po ilgų klajonių poeto portretas parkeliavo į Maironio namus, jį atvežė JAV lietuvių kultūrininkė Marija Remienė. |
