Information about the museum
Kretinga Museum was founded in 1935. Since 1992 the museum continues its activities in Kretinga manor house, which covers an area of 43 hectares. Kretinga Manor was founded in the 15th–16th century, first mentioned in written sources in 1566. In the beginning of 19th century counts Zubovai established an English-style park here. Since the second half of the 19th century until the end of the World War II, the estate was ruled by counts Tiškevičiai. The manor house has 24 monumental buildings, including a neoclassical manor house with decorated halls, a 4-storey Winter Garden with more than 5,000 plants that bloom all the year. The palace is surrounded by a picturesque park with rich greenery, ponds, astronomical calendar.
Kretinga Museum introduces visitors to the heritage of the material and spiritual culture of the important Lithuanian coast region. In the new renovated premises permanent exhibitions of Manor history and culture, archeology, numismatics, history of Kretinga region, ethnography were opened. The exhibition of the history and culture of the manor presents chronological exhibits of Kretinga manor owners and their activities in Kretinga and Lithuania.
