Information about the museum

The idea of setting up a Druskininkai City Museum has been there for many years, throughout which historical material and paintings were collected. The museum was founded in 1999, and its first permanent exhibition – the collection donated by Petras Viščinis – was officially opened a year later, in 2000.

The Druskininkai City Museum is housed in a prestigious building of Villa Linksma, a nationally protected cultural object. The brick summer house in modern and neoclassical style is situated on the north-eastern bank of Lake Druskonis, next to the church, in the very centre of the city. The congruence of the villa and the surrounding area fascinates both the residents and the guests of the resort, so it can undoubtedly be considered one of the main symbols of the town.

The museum displays the only comprehensive exhibition on the history of Druskininkai and has collected valuable iconographic and archival material of the resort. The museum also cooperates with other cultural institutions in Lithuania and abroad: Its collections have been exhibited in several exhibitions in Lithuania, galleries and museums of neighbouring countries, Lithuanian embassies, and tourist centres.
