Information about the museum
The museum is located in historical premises – the first public power plant in Vilnius, built to light the city's streets. On the occasion of the centenary of the power plant, the museum was ceremoniously opened in 2003 and received its first visitors.
The museum is particularly proud of the power plant building and the authentic equipment that was functional not so long ago. Visitors can not only experience the results of the complex preservation of industrial heritage, but also see interactive eye-catching scientific expositions and learn more about the industrial side of Vilnius. Today, the building's old architecture benefits from a modern connection to contemporary solutions: a wind and solar power system has been installed on the roof, showcasing green energy and new technologies in the field.
The museum is interesting for visitors of all ages. Here, authenticity goes hand in hand with exhibitions of modern science museums and scientific attractions. The museum not only fulfils the educational mission of a cultural-historical monument, but also serves as an attractive object for tourists.
Guides tours and cultural activities are also organized in the space opened to the public in the summer of 2023 – the Liepkalnis Water Storage (Liepkalnio Street 20, Vilnius).
