Information about the museum
Open-Air Museum of the Centre of Europe was opened in 1991. The museum owes its idea to the sculptor Gintaras Karosas. The museum's exhibition covers a 55-hectare wooded area specifically designed as an exhibition space. Previously, the area was an overgrown, swampy forest. To prepare the site for the outdoor exhibition, the forest was cleared, paths were created, and ponds were dug. In the exhibition, visitors can see works by artists from 34 countries and pleasantly pass their time. There are over 130 works of art on display, most of which are sculptures. This is one of the most visited museums in Lithuania. It aims is to become the highest quality open-air museum of modern art, where the works of the most famous artists become a part of the artistically designed landscape and promote the aesthetic education of the public.
