Information about the museum

The Ignalina Regional Museum was founded in 2012. Visitors can see here several exhibitions presenting the ancient customs, crafts, and way of life of the people from the region. The Ethnographic Exhibition includes various objects, tools and equipment used in the 19th and 20th centuries: old irons, looms, dowry chests, furniture, and many other authentic household articles. The exhibition shows the entire journey of linen, a vital crop at the time, from sowing to making bedspreads and various old fishing techniques with explanations of how fishing helped people survive here. Another exhibition is dedicated to the photographs of Ignalina-born photographer Algis Jakštas. The pictures show dozens of people from the region. A somewhat unconventional exhibition – a restored registry office from the Soviet era – is also a visitor attraction. On display are authentic furniture, wedding clothes and wedding photographs from the period. One of the more recent exhibitions include old prayer books, paintings of saints and liturgical vestments.

The Ignalina Regional Museum has a separate branch: the Adomas Hrebnickis Memorial Museum in Rojus village.
