Description
Exhibit description | Saulės laikrodis su kompasu, didinamuoju stiklu, patrankėle ir gulsčiuku. Turi medinę dėžutę. Jis skirtas tiksliam saulės laikui matuoti ir garsiniam signalui paduoti vidurdienį. Laikrodis sudėtinis, nešiojamas. Ant apvalaus pagrindo sumontuotas horizontalus saulės laikrodis su gnomonu, didinamasis stiklas, patrankėlė ir gulsčiukas.
Saulės laikrodžiai patobulėjo Antikos laikais. Pagal plokštumos padėtį jie skirstomi į horizontaliuosius, vertikaliuosius, polinius ir pusiaujinius. Graikai pastebėjo, kad pirmuosiuose saulės laikrodžiuose statmenos lazdos šešėlis ant horizontalaus paviršiaus rodo laiką skirtingai įvairiais metų laikais, todėl kiekvienam mėnesiui reikia atskiros skalės. Jie suprato, kad patogiausia skales išbraižyti įgaubtame sferiniame paviršiuje, imituojančiame dangaus skliautą. Kitu atveju pasviręs strypas su plokštuma turėtų sudaryti kampą, atitinkantį vietovės geografinę platumą. Tuomet valandų padalos yra vienodos visiems mėnesiams. Tokiuose saulės laikrodžiuose pasviręs strypas arba trikampė plokštelė vadinama gnomonu. Pavadinimas kilęs iš graikų kalbos žodžio „gnomon“ reiškiantį „žinąs“. Laiką parodo gnomono šešėlio kryptis plokštumoje. Vertikalieji ir poliniai saulės laikrodžiai puošdavo pilių, bažnyčių, rūmų sienas. Horizontalieji ir pusiaujiniai saulės laikrodžiai dažniausiai būdavo įrengiami ant kokio nors stalelio, stulpelio, postamento. Pamažu atsirado ir kitokių, labiau sudėtingų saulės laikrodžių. Buvo sukonstruoti saulės laikrodžiai, kurie garsu skelbdavo laiką. Tokio saulės laikrodžio linzė nukreipdavo saulės spindulius į vieną laikrodžio tašką ir nustatytu laiku (dažniausiai tai būdavo vidurdienį) uždegdavo paraką. Tada laikrodyje įtaisyta patrankėlė, skelbdama vidurdienį, iššaudavo. Viduramžiuose šiais laikrodžiais tikslindavo pirmųjų mechaninių laikrodžių veikimą, kurie iš pradžių nebuvo labai tikslūs. Saulės laikrodžiai buvo naudojami iki XVIII amžiaus.
