Exhibit description | Prancūzų tapytojas Simonas Vujė, kaip ir dauguma kitų užsienio šalių dailininkų, įkvėpimo ir patirties semtis išvyko į Italiją, kuri tuo metu diktavo meno madas. Ten praleido 13 metų, patyrė stiprią Karavadžo ir Bolonijos akademistų įtaką. 1627-aisiais jis grįžo į Paryžių ir tapo karališkųjų rūmų dailininku. Būtent tuo laikotarpiu ir buvo sukurtas šis paveikslas. Jame savitai dera Italijoje regėta barokinė susipinančių, neramių linijų plastika su klasicizmo stiliui būdinga proporcijų darna, dekoratyviu koloritu ir dominuojančiu piešiniu. Be to, kaip įprasta klasicizmui, paveiksle įamžinti antikinio pasaulio herojai. |

Information about historical, cultural and art object
Plot | Merkurijus – romėnų mitologijoje prekybos, praturtėjimo ir pelno dievas, dievų valdomo Jupiterio ir Majos sūnus, siejamas su graikų dievu Hermiu. Todėl jam priskiriamos ir dievų pasiuntinio, keliautojų globėjo bei mirusiųjų sielų palydovo į anapusinę karalystę funkcijos. Merkurijus taip pat yra menų gobėjas, magijos ir paslapčių žinovas, sapnų ir miego valdovas. Kaip dievų pasiuntinys paprastai vaizduojamas su sparnuotais sandalais ar šalmu. Specifinis Merkurijaus atributas – lazda – caduceus, kuria jis galėjo bet ką užmigdyti arba pažadinti iš giliausio miego.
