Information about the museum
The museum presents valuable exhibits from the academic, cultural, and scientific heritage of Vilnius University. The museum's main exhibitions are housed in the three chapels and the bell tower of St. John's Church (entrance through the gates on Universiteto Street 3).
In the old sacristy, visitors can see study programmes, students' agendas, books, and other objects related to Vilnius University in the 15th to 18th centuries. One of the most visited objects is the bell tower of St. John's Church. The exhibits on display here tell the story of Vilnius University: it was for a long time the farthest north-eastern Catholic university in Europe and one of the oldest educational institutions in Central Europe. The stairs or elevator lead up to a viewing platform from where visitors can enjoy a breath-taking panoramic view of Vilnius.
Vilnius University also has museums and collections of other faculties (Zoology, Herbarium, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, and Geology).
