This memorial museum, part of Vilnius University, is dedicated to the poet Adam Mickiewicz (1798–1855) and is housed in an architectural monument, a building from the 17–18^th centuries. In 1822, Adam Mickiewicz, who had returned to Vilnius from Kaunas, lived on the first floor on the left side of the building. Here, the poet completed his poem Grazyna, planning to publish it.

The date of the founding of the museum is not precisely known. It is believed that it was founded in 1898 on the occasion of Adam Mickiewicz's birth centenary. In 1911, the editor and publisher of Kwartalnik Litewski, Jan Obst, bought the premises on Bernardinai Street and collected material about Adam Mickiewicz here. Since 1955, the museum has been a part of Vilnius University.

The most valuable exhibits in the museum are the personal belongings of Adam Mickiewicz: a small desk, a chair and an armchair used by the poet while living in Kaunas and Paris. Visitors can also see letters of the secret Philomath Society, artworks about the poet, and many more exhibits. The restored Gothic cellar now houses the Hall of Poetry, and there is a Philomath Hall on the first floor.
